The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games have started today in the People’s Republic of China’s capital city. Despite a so-called diplomaic boycott announced by the US and Britain, several world leaders are either participating in the opening ceremony personally or sending greetings messages.
In Turkey, Chinese authorities asked Vatan Party Chairman D. Doğu Perinçek to convey a message to the games, which was aired by the Chinese state television as one of the first news. The headline of Perinçek’s message, “Humanity is the champion”, has received widespread citation in Chinese social media. In his greetings message, Perinçek placed the Winter Olympic Games into the context of mankind’s long-enduring struggle for a humanity. UWI presents below the full text of the message conveyed by Dr. Doğu Perinçek, Chairman of the Vatan Party, to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.

I am sending my warmest greetings and best wishes to all our athletes from the seven continents that participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games. I am also greeting the people of the People’s Republic of China.
It is true that the Beijing Winter Olympic Games are held on ice and snow. But in our minds they are held on the winter’s warmth. The feelings of brotherhood in the hearts of the world’s nations and athletes are warming up those ices and the snow.
These Olympic games are hosting the whole humanity with the thousands of years old Chinese tradition of hospitality. These Olympic games are centered on humans and humanity.
A mountain cannot embrace another mountain, but in Beijing, humans from the seven continents are embracing each other.
The race for humanity starts in Beijing now. The love for mankind and the ethics of sportsmanship are competing there.
In Winter Olympic games, we are not competing against each other but against the challenges that humanity faces. Therefore, when we spend effort, when we push ourselves, we feel the pain and the willpower of the other. Our pain is shared, and the effort is spent for humanity.
If I win the race, the Turkish nation will celebrate. If I lose the race, another brotherly nation will celebrate. We will celebrate each other’s success. In Beijing, we share our successes and we share our celebrations.
I am greeting our common success and our common feelings that embrace each other in Beijing.
We become champions in this race with the respect we feel towards our competitors and their efforts. Whoever wins, we all will have won. The athlete’s efforts and the brotherhood will win.
The champion of these Olympic games is the human determination, his willpower to overcome difficulties.
The champion of these Olympic games is – and hereby declare it already – is human labor.
Humanity’s future is shared. And now, we, the world’s athletes are racing for our common destiny.
The flag that will be raised on the top of the mountain in the Beijing Olympic games is the flag of the humanity’s common future.
The Turkish athletes will compete in this race of shared future with all their determination and willpower, as they have always done.
In this Olympic games, humanity will win the gold medal.
The silver medal will go to the athletes’ effort and ethics.
The bronze medal will go to our determination to overcome difficulties.
Then, I hereby announce the slogan of the Beijing Winter Olympic games from Turkey to the brotherly people of China and he athletes of the seven continents: Humanity is the champion!
