We spoke about the protests in Georgia against the government with the Director of the Center for Islamic Studies of the Caucasus Shota Apkhaidze. Currently in Tbilisi, the Georgian political scientist Apkhaidze explained the reasons and future of the protests to United World International.
How do you interpret the recent incidents in Georgia?
The Georgian president declared that she supports these actions. This is not surprising. The President of Georgia has long been serving the interests of Western countries and America, and not those of Georgia and the Georgian people. She has long been making statements that simply contradict the Constitution of Georgia and undermine the security of our country.
Now what is happening in our country is in fact not just for nothing, these are regular directives from America.
Our legislature is now adopting a very important law for the further development of our state and for the protection of our sovereignty from foreign agents. In this regard, the West very carefully and in detail prepared a plan for destabilization in Georgia in case that this law is adopted. Because America understands that their foundations, the Open Society (Soros Foundation) finance the destructive opposition in Georgia. They finance the NGOs. These are actually agents of influence!
That is, if a grant is allocated, for example, to finance human rights, protection of nature – why then do these grants go to finance some kind of protest actions? This is what I can’t understand!
Accordingly, the state has the right to adopt such a law, because these NGOs and the people who work there are only 5%. And the rest of the percentage is also the citizens of Georgia, who do not agree with them! And such a background is created that these NGOs seem to decide the fate of our country and our people.
We are facing a new attempt of the coup in 2003 with the support of the West. It was unconstitutional then, and it is now. They do this openly. They say they will overthrow the pro-Kremlin government. It is impossible to understand this either. The government follows a pro-Western line, supports the EU process, etc.
However, Georgia’s non-participation in sanctions against Russia did not suit the West. But not participating in sanctions is primarily in the interests of Georgia. It has nothing to do with pro-Russian politics.
Besides, Kyiv has been accusing the Georgian government since the start of Russia’s ‘Special Military Operation’. But why should Georgia be obliged to pick a side? They want Georgia to open up a second front. But Georgia does not want to be part of this conflict. It can play a mediating role. Accordingly, in the recent days, Georgia’s Prime Minister has proposed the beginning of talks.
And then, there is the incident of Saakashvili’s arrest. The West wants someone, who is arrested in accordance with Georgian laws, to be released.
At what stage are the protests right now?
Throwing “Molotov cocktails” is a pre-arranged action of the radical opposition. In addition, a few days ago, Georgian mercenaries arrived in Georgia from Ukraine. The leadership of Ukraine finances them, they are well prepared and ready to further radicalize the protest in order to overthrow the government in Georgia.
What kind of democracy is this when people are ready to shed blood and unleash a civil war? Is this really a democracy?
Many thanks to law enforcement officers for the fact that they were able to keep the situation under control. They did not allow destructive elements to cause chaos and mass pogroms in the Georgian capital, defended the Parliament building and, within the framework of the law, defended the constitutional system of Georgia.
“The CIA is behind the protests”
The police, in the best sense of the word, dispersed the rally. In fact, this is not a peaceful action, but a pre-planned aggression on the part of the West in Georgia. I have repeatedly said that not only the Americans, but also the Ukrainian special services were behind these actions. Three months ago, I conducted an investigation and said that David Arakhamia and the Zelensky regime created an organization in Georgia called the Anti-Corruption Centre.
It would seem that this organization should investigate the facts of corruption, but in fact this centre was created in order for Georgia to join the anti-Russian sanctions. Ultimately, it all escalated yesterday into an attack on the police, an attack on the parliament building.
The US is rocking another Maidan in Georgia. The CIA and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) are behind the riots in Tbilisi.
Will the protests continue?
Of course, such actions will continue. Over the past year, the destructive opposition has repeatedly clung to any topic in order to find some reason to stir up a civil war in Georgia, to overthrow the current government. Their reasons do not end – the task is to stir up a civil war, so everything will continue today, and tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow – as long as the Americans are in Georgia, until they get what they want.
There is always a risk, because the country has a very strong social background – there is no economy, no production, many problems, so you can always find some reason, add a problem and rock the situation. So far, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs is able to keep the situation under control, but one should not relax, given that several dozen Georgian mercenaries who are fighting on the territory of Ukraine returned to the country yesterday or the day before.
We need to think about why these people came. They are trained and have certain skills in warfare, including civil war. Plus, they can instruct other representatives of the destructive opposition.
