“Unipolar system cannot find a solution to the global economic crisis”

“There is a new trend in the world towards creating different unions. Previously established associations such as the G77 are also becoming more active. It is very important that G77+China takes place in Cuba, which is under American embargo. Many developing G77 member countries attended this summit in Cuba, officially bypassing the American embargo. It was also important that the summit sent a message about the capitalist system that impoverished the world.”

The G77+China Summit was held on September 15 – 16, hosted by Cuban President Miguel Diaz Canel. The summit, which brought together many heads of state, ended with a joint declaration.

UWI author and political scientist Onur Sinan Güzaltan evaluated the summit in China Radio International/Türkiye’s Headline program.

The unipolar capitalist system dominated by America cannot find a solution to the global economic crisis. For this reason, the world is in search of new shapes. Issues such as multipolarity debates and changing the structure of the United Nations also emerge as a result of this.

The world is being shaped anew

When we look at history, the Non-Aligned Movement emerged as the third movement in the bipolar world led by the United States and the Soviet Union, led by Egypt, India and Yugoslavia. The world is being reshaped. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, there was a unipolar world in which American hegemony continues until today. This hegemony became even stronger with America’s post-9/11 invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. But later this trend started to decline. It is now possible to talk about a multipolar world.

The current structure of the United Nations is obsolete

We are talking about a world consisting of many poles, where China is at the top of the world economically, Russia has an important military and cultural position, and Europe acts as a unity. Naturally, previous structures such as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will change. At the last summit of BRICS, which is one of the organizations established to change this structure, it was discussed whether the growth of the union by recruiting new members would have a result that would make the decision-making mechanism heavier. Will BRICS have a proposal to the United Nations to expand the Security Council? Will BRICS issue a common currency? The debates continue. If we look at it in micro terms, it is necessary to analyze well the conflict between the West and the East that is currently ongoing over Ukraine. Who will prevail in this conflict will be the answer to these questions.

A multipolar world does not mean a world without the US.

The US is trying to impose its own rules, but where it cannot prevent it, it will accept the new world and act within the new rules. A multipolar world does not mean a world without the US. However, it will be among other powers, not as the dominant power as in the past. He will try to establish a balance for himself here. Considering the ongoing war with Ukraine, the USA cannot get the resolutions it wants from the UNSC. Therefore, steps can be expected from the USA to change the current structure of the UNSC.
