Azerbaijani specialists: A call of ceasefire is not going to work

While the Azerbaijani armed forces, which has undertaken a comprehensive operation against the provocative attacks on the border line of Armenia, are saving 6 villages in the occupied Karabakh, also seizes the important military points of Armenia. In the footage released yesterday, it was seen that the Armenian troops fled, leaving heavy armored weapons.

According to the statement made by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani army also took control of the summit of Murovdag. With the seizure of the summit, the road connecting the occupied regions with Armenia can be followed by the Azerbaijani army.

In addition, in the statement made by the Ministry of Defense, it was stated that if the Armenian garrison surrendered, the treatment of prisoners of war and civilian hostages would be carried out in accordance with the Geneva Convention and other international legal norms.

In the statement, it was noted that if the Armenian forces insisted to resist, everyone with guns would be neutralized.

Meanwhile, both countries have declared “state of war”.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe and United Nations called a ceasefire for parties.

Azerbaijan-Armenia border clashes and the Karabakh problem

Evaluating the developments, Azerbaijani experts analyzed the current situation and said that the ceasefire calls would be useful for Armenia.

Azerbaijani journalist Agil Alesger stated that Armenia has been carrying out harassment fire and provocative operations in both the Karabakh region and the Tovuz region since July.

Alesger summed up the situation as follows:

“This morning, they carried out an attack on the Karabakh border. They targeted the civilians. One of their aims is to evacuate the villages there and expel civilians. The Azerbaijani armed forces took action to protect the civilian population. According to the information received so far, 6 villages under occupation have been liberated. The war is ongoing. Armenia panicked. The OSCE and the European Union, which did nothing against the occupation, call for a truce as we liberate the villages. At the moment, the truce will only benefit Armenia, because Armenia wants to maintain the current situation. However, the Azerbaijani armed forces is determined. We will triumph over Armenia in Karabakh.”

“We are very pleased because of Turkey’s support. We will also benefit from the experience of the Turkish soldier in the Azerbaijani armed forces. Today, Turkish-trained soldiers are now being trained in the Azerbaijani armed forces. These are very important, and Azerbaijani soldiers will now undergo Turkish military training,” Azerbaijani journalist said, who thanked Turkey for its support.

President of Azerbaijan Institute for Democracy and Human Rights, Ahmad Shahidov explained the current situation as follows:

“Right now, internet is limited in the country, Facebook and Whatsapp are not working for security reasons. Such a measure was taken in terms of national security so that the locations of the military units were not known. President Aliyev convened the National Security Council. At the meeting, he said that this war would continue, that we were protecting our land, and that operations were being carried out against terrorist attacks.”

‘The incidents are being provoked by the US’: Journalist Agil Alesger reports on the situation in Baku

Shahidov commented on the calls for ceasefire by the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) and the European Union: “Azerbaijan has been patient for 30 years to keep the peace, yet at every turn Armenia just tried to gain time. The conflicts that broke out in April of 2016 and the conflicts that broke out in July and September this year show that the Armenian side has no intention of solving this problem peacefully. Over these years we have strengthened our military with the support of the Republic of Turkey, our armed forces are now powerful leader army, and Azerbaijani armed forces is able to liberate the occupied territories by its own capability. Armenia is in a difficult situation today. These military operations are the result of Armenian provocations. Calls for peace are unreasonable and insincere. These calls have not received positive results for the last 30 years. Now we had to speak in a language Armenia would understand, because there was no other way out. For 30 years we have sought our rights in all kinds of international platforms, but they see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. We also have a limit to our patience. I do not consider calls of peace as a sincere deed. It is time to discriminate friends and foes. ”

Commenting on the position of Russia, Ahmad Shahidov made the following comments:

“Russia is our neighboring country; it has interests in the region. It can play a key role in solving the Karabakh problem. Russia-Armenia relations are at a high level, but at the same time, Russia officially supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. On the other hand, Russia has a military base in Armenia. After these conflicts, Russia called for an equal ceasefire on parties. Armenian President Pashinyan is not a popular name in Russia. Moscow does not like Pashinyan’s efforts to get support from the USA. Moscow is not in favor of Pashinyan, but Russia maintains Armenia’s security under The Collective Security Treaty Organization. On the other hand, Russia makes statements in regard to defending the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are at a high level recently. The war continues. The confrontation will become clearer in the following days. “

Shahidov, also stressed Turkey’s support in these terms: “the highest level of support came from the brother Republic of Turkey. The President, the Minister of National Defense and the Minister of Foreign Affairs offered their full support. Brother Turkey provides all kinds of support. “
