The Mexican Labor Party (Partido del Trabajo) has convened to the international congress “Political Parties and a New Society” in Mexico City on October 21 – 23. This year was the 25th anniversary of the yearly held congress.
Over 200 invited personalities from all over Latin America and selected countries outside the continent participated in the congress. United World International experts Mehmet Perinçek and Yunus Soner also took part.
Several Latin American countries were represented by their governing parties, such as Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Argentina, while others sent political representatives belonging to main opposition parties, such as Ecuador, Chile and Brazil.
Evo Morales, former President of Bolivia held the opening speech of the congress, where Manuel Zelaya, former President of Honduras also spoke.
The Mexican Labor Party itself is part of Mexico’s governing coalition, after having supported the current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s election in 2018. Obrador’s party, MORENA (Movement of National Regeneration) was represented at the congress by its Secretary General Citlalli Hernández.
National anthem, national flags and national sovereignty
As it’s a tradition, the congress started with the national anthem and flag ceremony of the hosting country, Mexico. This ceremony reflected without exception the spirit and content of all speeches held during three days, which focused on the importance of national sovereignty. National independence is major topic of the world’s leftist and socialist parties.
Condition of being a revolutionary: anti-imperialism
The former President of Bolivia, Evo Morales emphasized in his opening speech that without taking a proper anti-imperialist stance, one cannot be revolutionary or socialist. Proposing to strengthen patriotism in the global revolutionary movement, Morales underlined that the US had organized a coup against him in order to obtain his country’s resources of lithium.
Representatives of the Labor Party, whose speeches UWI will document in the coming days, underlined that conquering the government as not enough – establishing a popular government and gaining the people’s support again and again was needed, they said. Labor Party representatives also emphasized that patriotism was the main weapon in the struggle against imperialism.
The congress lasted three days, where participants presented papers around the following topics:
1. Conjuncture in Latin America and the Caribbean – imperialist aggression and intervention and social and political resistance
2. New global geopolitical and geoeconomical reformation
3. Crisis of neoliberalism
Multipolarity and Latin American integration
A general consensus was expressed on the fact of emerging multipolarity and the need for Latin American integration. Several speakers expressed the opinion that, if Latin America fails to integrate, the continent won’t be able to constitute a pole and resist US imperialism successfully. Efforts of the current Mexican government to revive CELAC were welcomed by all participants.
The congress also displayed the failure of US “backyard policy” and Monroism: In countries such as Venezuela, Bolivia and Honduras, the US either failed to topple down the government, or the fallen government was approaching power again.
Resolution rejecting US aggression in Syria, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea
On the last day of the congress, the participants discussed and approved various resolutions.
UWI expert Mehmet Perinçek has held on behalf of the Vatan Party a speech, which UWI will present in the coming days, and presented a resolution, which was accepted and applauded.
The resolution, which was accepted by the “Political Parties and a New Society” congress in Mexico said the following:
“Having been expelled from Afghanistan, the United States has accelerated its provocations in Syria, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
The United States;
In Syria plans new attacks against the region using separatist and reactionary organizations.
In the Eastern Mediterranean holds military exercises against Turkey and the whole Eurasian geography and mounting military on the islands of the Aegean.
In the Black Sea targets the regional countries and especially Russia, using Ukraine and pursues warmongering policies.
These actions of the US, which do not only threaten the regional countries but the whole of humanity, are inacceptable.
We strongly condemn the US aggression in the Middle East, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea and call upon all revolutionary parties in the world to unite in order to foil these plans of Washington.
UWI experts Perinçek and Soner met in the aftermath of the congress also seperatly with the leadership of the Labor Party.
UWI will publish in the coming days the opening speech of Alberto Anaya Gutierrez, National Coordinator of the Labor Party, the speech held by Mehmet Perinçek on behals of Turkey’s Vatan Party and various interviews conducted by Yunus Soner with different Latin American politicians.
