Ankara’s approval of Sweden’s entry into NATO is a betrayal

UWI author, Doctor of Historical Sciences, representative of the Vatan (Patriotic) Party Mehmet Perinçek, in an interview with Russian NEWS.ru, called Ankara’s agreement to Sweden’s entry into NATO “a betrayal of the Turkish people” due to serious disagreements and conflicts with NATO. Among such problems, he named the Alliance’s position towards the PKK and the Palestinian issue.

“The expansion of the Alliance not only plays against Russia, but threatens all Eurasian countries, including Türkiye, which is surrounded by the countries of the bloc on all sides. The so-called ‘balance’ policy of the Turkish leadership led to betrayal. The balance that so much is talked about has been lost,” Perinçek said.

According to him, in order to maintain a true national policy, it was necessary to create a strategic partnership with Eurasian countries, which also suffer from US and NATO aggression. The historian believes that in order to overcome the crisis in the Turkish economy, it is necessary to maintain strategic relations, including with Russia, China and Iran.

“NATO itself is a threat to the entire world. And its expansion is even worse than just a threat. All problems come from the Alliance’s aggression in Taiwan, Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, etc.,” Perinçek explained.

Earlier, members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (parliament) approved a draft law that provides for the ratification of the protocol on Sweden’s accession to NATO. Out of 346 deputies, 287 were in favor of the initiative, 55 were against it, and four parliamentarians chose to abstain.
