The former military attaché of Türkiye in Azerbaijan, General Yücel Karauz evaluated the latest developments in the South Caucasus to Azerbaijan’s state news agency Azertac. We translated the interview published in Russian into English for United World International readers.
Armenia now does not represent a normal state entity in the usual sense of the word. Nikol Pashinyan does not fully control the military-political, social and psychological situation in his country. In the new current situation, everyone in Armenia acts according to his own whim, guided solely by his own interests, depending on who and how much money and support he received. It is in this light that we should consider the démarche of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who left the meeting room during the speech of Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at the UN Security Council.

On the other hand, the agency’s interlocutor noted here again the inability of Armenia to accept the situation, the activities carried out by Azerbaijan in less than 24 hours, the victory of Azerbaijan and the new manifested status quo are; inability to come to terms with the fact that on the eve of their Independence Day they (the Armenian side – ed.) were forced to raise the white flag and, having accepted all the conditions of Azerbaijan, agreed to a meeting in Yevlakh.
“All these factors, to some extent, predetermine subsequent events: we will again witness illogical, inconsistent, inexplicable actions, when the mind advocates peace, but the body is at odds with it. Cases of violation of the ceasefire, attempts to prolong the state of uncertainty, and continue their tactics of stalling for time cannot be ruled out. But everything is in vain: Azerbaijan’s 24-hour local anti-terrorist measures, the neutralization of terrorists and their equipment have driven the Armenian side into a dead end”, the expert said.
According to him, the last victory of Azerbaijan confirmed the indisputability of the leadership of this country in the South Caucasus both in military-political and socio-economic terms and turned the republic into a regional center of power.
“We will soon see the manifestation of this in the processes taking place not only in the South Caucasus region, but also in Central Asia, and this will be achieved in close cooperation with Türkiye and the entire Turkic world. Azerbaijan has long turned into a state that does not play by the rules of others, but itself dictates the rules of the game and changes the balance of power. This is confirmed by the presence of a powerful army in the republic, strong statehood, strong political power, restoration of territorial integrity, ensuring sovereignty over its entire geography, and support of the people. At the same time, we see that Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Russia have become forces determining the course of regional events. They can be joined by Armenia and Iran, which has come to terms with reality, if it comes to its senses, also comes to terms with the situation, shows respect for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, enters constructive cooperation and contributes to regional cooperation”, says Yücel Karauz.
